AN5001 "Computer Animation Pro" Starts on Monday 14 September

"Hotel Aloha"
Module AN5001 Computer Animation Pro starts on Monday 14th September.

That seems like a long way off, but it's a good idea for our students to keep practicing animation over the summer break.

AN5001 is the first animation module that our undergraduate students encounter in their second year of studies.

In September we hit the ground running - our animation students will tackle character actions, pantomime, acting, performance and dialogue.

Building on AN4001
Students will build on the animation skills they learned in the first year of studies, and particularly in AN4001 - Introduction to Animation.

Module AN5001 is a big leap forward, our students tackle character animation and acting, and the module culminates in an entry in the monthly 11 Second Club competition.

Second Year UG Studies
The second year of undergraduate animation studies at Escape Studios contains four modules, which run sequentially from September 2019 until the end of May 2020.  Together these four modules are worth a grand total of 120 credits.

Amedeo Beretta
Tutors - Alex Williams & Amedeo Beretta
This year we have two animation tutors at Level 5. Like last year, I'll be teaching one of the classes, and I'm delighted to welcome veteran animator Amedeo Beretta who will be teaching the other class. In their second year of studies, our second year animation students start to specialise in their chosen field and also tackle their first group projects.

AN5001 Computer Animation Pro
AN5001 is the second animation module (in the first year, students tackle AN4001; Animation Core), in which students tackle character actions, pantomine, acting, performance and dialogue.  The module is worth a total of 30 credits.  The module starts on Monday 14th September and runs until Friday 23rd October.

11 Second Club Competition
The module culminates in an entry in the monthly 11 Second Club competition. In 2019 two of our students, Paloma Zhu and Eilin Berrio Pena, ranked 3rd and 4th respectively in the competition. In 2018 all our students placed in the top half of the competition, and six placed in the top 30.  In 2017 five of our students placed in the top twenty entries in the competition.  You can see more 11 Second Club Entries at our YouTube Channel here.

Below is a notable entry by Escapee Maria Robertson.

Facebook Classroom
Our second year animators will join our dedicated FB Classroom - this closed group is our online Classroom, where we shared ideas, post work, and get critique from our peers.  It's a closed group - only open to our students and the relevant staff members.

Where and when
This year is a blended learning approach, a mixture of online delivery and classroom teaching. My class is called "Judge Doom" and will be taught in ToonTown. Amedeo's class is "Stark" and will be taught in Rapture. Classes begin online on Monday, and will be taught through Blackboard Collaborate. Please log in on Monday from your machines and home, and join the online class at Blackboard. On Tuesday, classroom teaching starts again (yay!) at 190 High Holborn on 15 September.

Schedule
Classes begin on Monday 14th September at 9.30am at 190 High Holborn. The module lasts for six weeks. See outline schedule below.

Individual Portfolio Assignment Due Date
The final assignment is an entry into the monthly 11 Second Club, in this case the October competition. The Individual Portfolio Assignment is due on Thursday 22 October at 11.59pm. Presentations and peer marking will take place on Friday 23 October.

Retrospective Due Date
The Retrospective is due on the evening of Monday 26th October 2020 at 11.59pm.  Submission is a single PDF document.
