Blue Zoo's 2026 summer internships are now open

Applications for Blue Zoo's 2026 summer internships are now open, and close on Friday 29th May at midnight.  

As always, we encourage our students to apply for internships like this one.  Even if you don't succeed, you will learn valuable skills along the way. 

The internship roles available this year at Blue Zoo are: 3D Animator, Social Media Intern and Production Assistant Intern.

Escapee Jason Cole Joins King Bee Animation

Congratulations to Escapee Jason Cole who has started an animation internship at King Bee Animation. 

Jason Cole studied the Art of Computer Animation at Escape Studios.  While at Escape Studios, Jason wrote and directed the award-winning short film "Life's Gifts".  Jason also worked on the award-winning short "Bloom". 

Escapee Elissa Heath Joins King Bee Animation

Congratulations to Escapee Elissa Heath who has started an animation internship at King Bee Animation. 

Elissa Heath studied the Art of Computer Animation at Escape Studios.   She also contributed to a number of award-winning animated short films, including "Dusty Memories" and "Bloom", on which she served as lead animator.  

ILM's "Jedi Academy" Now Open For Applications

Industrial Light & Magic's Jedi Academy is now open

Industrial Light & Magic's Jedi Academy, a six month paid internship at ILM, is now open for applications.

You can apply here, and the deadline is May 4th 2026.  We highly recommend that our students and Escapees apply. 

Freefolk "Futurefolk" Internship is Back for 2026

"Futurefolk" is back, and now accepting applications

VFX House Freefolk has announced that their paid internship scheme, "Futurefolk", is back, and is now accepting applications. 

Freefolk's talent team is now "ready to spot the skill, creativity and enthusiasm required to kick-start the careers of the next generation of VFX stars".  The deadline for submissions is midnight on Friday 17th April 2026.  You can apply via the Freefolk website here.

Congratulations to Escapee Elissa Heath who has started an internship at the animation studio Carse & Waterman Productions.  Elissa will be learning the Blender animation pipeline at Carse & Waterman.

Elissa Heath studied the Art of Computer Animation at Escape Studios.   She also contributed to a number of award-winning animated short films, including "Dusty Memories" and "Bloom", on which she served as lead animator. 

Screen Skills Animation Trainee Finder 2025 Opens

Calling all Animation Escapees - on September 1st Screen Skills launched a new paid placement scheme for graduates, The "Animation Trainee Finder". Applications for the scheme are now open, and close on Friday 26th September 2025.

"Animation Trainee Finder" places trainees on animation productions and aims to ensure a steady supply of talent for the UK animation industry.

Freefolk "Futurefolk" Internship Now Open

"Futurefolk", is back, and now accepting applications

VFX House Freefolk has announced that their internship scheme, "Futurefolk", is back, and now accepting applications.

Danish Adeem studied the Art of Computer Animation at Escape Studios. While at Escape Studios, Danish contributed to a number of short films, including the award-winning films Liminal, Love Mum, Good Soup and Tech Troubles. 

Danish Adeem was the Lead Animator on Liminal.

Blue Zoo Summer Internships Open May 27th

Calling all VFX students at Escape Studios (at least, those with US citizenship) - Netflix is now accepting applications for their Summer 2024 VFX Studio Internship.

If you're an undergraduate student with a passion for visual effects, this could be your gateway to a thriving career. 

To be eligible, you must be authorized to work in the USA and have an expected graduation date between December 2024 and May/June 2025.   

Applications close on February 9th.  If you're eligible, don't miss out on this chance to gain valuable experience with one of the industry leaders.

Luis Yarroll Intern at DNEG Animation

Many congratulations to Escape Studios animation student Luis Yarroll who has started an internship at DNEG, one of the UK's leading visual effects houses.  Internships at DNEG are highly competitive, with applications from students all over the UK. 

Luis is in his second year of studies at Escape Studios, but he has already produced two award-winning animated shorts: "Squeaky Clean" and "Wake:Up!", both completed with a small team in under six weeks.

Many congratulations to Escapee Callum Wylie who has begun an internship with London-based animation studio Blue Zoo, responsible for animated hits such as the BAFTA and Emmy-award winning "Paddington" series. 

While at Escape Studios, Callum contributed to a number of short films.  In 2019 Callum produced the adventure-horror trailer "Death from Above", which has won multiple festival awards. 

Callum also contributed to three other films at Escape Studios: Street Ratz, Quarantine Chorus and Slushy, all of which have won festival awards.

How to Find an Internship in Animation

How do our students find internships in the animation industry? This is a question I get asked regularly at Escape Studios. The important thing to remember is that finding an internship is a lot like finding a job; and all the same principles apply. Many congratulations to Sarah Andrews, third year undergraduate animation student at Escape Studios who has secured an 8 week summer internship storyboarding with Sliced Bread Animation in Bethnal Green.

Sliced Bread is a multi-disciplined, multi-award-winning digital animation studio based in London, creating animation for a wide variety of clients, including Sony, Coca-Cola, Microsoft and Unilever.

Sliced Bread produce "high-impact, bespoke animations and applications for marketing and corporate communications, including virtual and augmented reality projects."

Sarah Andrews is an award-winning animator and storyboard artist who has worked on many projects at Escape Studios; specialising in storyboarding in her final year.

Many congratulations to second year undergraduate animation student Jack Thompson, who has recently began a summer animation Internship at Myriad Global Media in London.

Myriad Global Media is a global company with offices in London, Houston and Abu Dhabi, specialisingin in VR, AR, film production, 2D/3D animation, interactive media, events, and exhibition. 

Summer internships are not always easy to find but they are out there - for those with persistence and dedication.

Crater Internship for Miguel and Maciej

Many congratulations to second year undergraduate animators Miguel Teixera and Maciej Osuch who have both secured summer internships at Crater Studios in Belgrade. 

Crater Studios are a Serbian animation house dedicated to the art of VFX production for TV and film; their industry partners include Warner Bros and Netflix.

Finding an internship in the second year of animation studies is a big step for our students; internships are an important stage in launching a long-term career in industry.

Doing a summer internship in animation is a great start to any animation career, and we strongly encourage all our students to do internships; it's the best way to get experience of working in a real studio.

How To Find an Animation Internship

How do you find an internship in the animation industry? It's a question we often get asked here at Escape Studios.

Internships can be an important stepping stone to a career in animation.  If an internship goes well, it might lead to a job, and even if it doesn't, it still looks good on a graduate CV.
