Character Creation Evening Class: 23 March 2026

Our Evening Class in Character Creation returns to Escape Studios on 23 March 2026.

The Evening Class in Character Creation teaches students how to design and create their own character designs, and bring them to life.  Students learn to design, model, texture, rig and animate your own character.

The Character Creation Evening Class course is taught by Aidan Lonergan.  Aidan's screen credits include The Hunger Games and Aquaman.

Escape Studios is proud to present our 2025 Character Creation Showreel, featuring the best work created by our talented students over the past year.  Our courses in character creation teach students how to design and create their own characters, and bring them to life.  Students learn to design, model, texture, rig and animate their own character, enabling them to be creative artists working with a wide variety of digital tools.

Character & Creature MA Returns 23 Sept 2024

Our MA (and short course) in Character and Creature Creation is back on 23 September 2024.

This 12 week course in Character & Creature Creation - first launched in September 2021 - is all about designing, modeling, and rigging your own characters, with a view to becoming a Character Artist at a Games, Animation or VFX house.

Meet Your Tutors - Jonathan McFall

Meet Your Tutors - Industry Veteran Jonathan McFall teaches both our Concept Art Evening Class at Escape Studios and also our Evening Class in Character Creation

Concept Art and Character Creation are part-time evening classes, designed to fit around jobs and families, focused on preparing our students for entry-level jobs in the creative industries.

Jonathan McFall is a veteran VFX artist with experience on multiple VFX hits such as Immortals, Men in Black 3, Harry Potter and Wrath of The Titans.  Jonathan is a cg generalist, bringing a wealth of knowledge and software skills to his evening classes.

Character & Creature Taster Day 18 Sept 2023

Character & Creature Creation is back! We're hosting a Taster Day in Character & Creature Creation on 18th September 2023 from 10am to 5pm at our new North Greenwich Campus at 6 Mitre Passage.

The taster day costs £10 and takes place from 10am until 5pm; and is run by Escape Studios tutor Aidan Lonergan

Aidan will show how to create a 3D sculpt from a 2D character design, covering some of the tools and techniques used in the course.

Aidan Lonergan Tutor at Escape Studios

We're extending a warm welcome to our newest tutor at Escape Studios - Escapee Aidan Lonergan, who will soon be teaching our short course and MA in Character and Creature Creation, now recruiting for September 2023.  

Aidan comes to us from MPC, one of the UK's longest-established VFX and animation houses, where he worked as a rigger, and from Factory 42, an immersive and television content production studio based at Somerset House on the Strand.

Aidan takes over teaching the short course and MA in Character and Creature Creation from Michael Davies, who first developed the course content.

Character & Creature Creation is back: we're hosting a Taster Day in Character & Creature Creation on 24th April 2023 at 10am

The free taster takes placefrom 10am until 4pm and is run by Escape Studios tutor and animation veteran Michael Davies.

Michael will introduce students to to facial anatomy - and how this can used to help create a character from a 2D concept.  

Character & Creature Creation is one of our most technically advanced courses; it involves the creation of characters and creatures from start to finish - from rough concept art all the way through to the final animation, lighting and rendering of characters and creatures.

We're delighted to announce our newest undergraduate "Tech Degree": BSc/MSci Character Creation for Animation, Games and VFX, which is now recruiting for September 2023.  

This new degree has come about after long consultation with industry, seeking to establish the right mix of creativity and technical skills needed in the modern animation, games and VFX industries.

Our 18 week evening class in Character Creation returns to Escape Studios on 9 May 2023.

This evening course teaches students how to design and create their own character designs, and bring them to life. Over 18 weeks you will design, model, texture, and rig your own original character.

The Character Creation course teaches a complete approach to the creation of original 3D characters.

Creating Content Webinar with British Council

Escape Studios, Animation UK, and the British Council are teaming up for an "Introduction to Content Development" webinar on Monday 24 January at 10am, discussing ways in which animation studios in Nigeria can create their own unique content and characters.

In the past two decades the animation industry has gone from being a small cottage industry to a global powerhouse, driven by advances in technology and also a huge increase in content creation.  The Nigerian animation business is a growing part of this landscape

In this webinar, made possible by the British Council, we'll be looking at the ways in which African startup studios can create their own unique content and characters and turn these into business opportunities.

In this Master's Degree, students learn the stages of character creation from design through modeling, rigging, texturing and final render.
