Basic Modeling with Michael Davies

We've added a new series of tutorials to our expanding Vimeo Channel - Basic Modeling with Michael Davies.

You can find the tutorials here at our Vimeo channel.  For anyone looking to get started with the basic modeling tools in Maya - this is the place to begin.

Basic Modeling in Maya
Basic Modeling in Maya is a series of videos which show how to use the basic modeling tools in Maya.  There are five short videos to watch.

  1. The Component. This video explores basic components. Polygons are made up of Faces, Edges and Vertices. These are known as Components. (5 mins)
  2. The Edit Mesh. This video explores the Edit Mesh Modifier that can be applied to objects and components. (15 mins)
  3. The Mesh Tools. Mesh Tools in Maya offer a toolset that enables further manipulation of assets. (12 mins)
  4. The House. This video demonstrates the creation of a simple house using a combinations of tools. (8 mins)
  5. The USB. This video demonstrates the creation of a slightly more complex object, a USB stick. (21 mins)

About Michael Davies
Michael is our undergraduate program leader, and an artist with a long industry track record. His main areas of expertise are rigging and modelling, but he has also worked as a 3D generalist and supervisor. 

He is also an Accredited Trainer for Maya at Autodesk.  Michael has worked on many VFX blockbusters such as Batman vs Superman, Doctor Strange and Thor Ragnarok.  He also rigged Smaug (The Hobbit) and The Minions for Illumination-McGuff.
