Calling all Animation Escapees - on September 1st Screen Skills launched a new paid placement scheme for graduates, The "Animation Trainee Finder". Applications for the scheme are now open, and close on Friday 26th September 2025.

"Animation Trainee Finder" places trainees on animation productions and aims to ensure a steady supply of talent for the UK animation industry.

Screenskills' Animation Trainee Finder Programme is an entry-level paid placement scheme which places trainees on animation productions to ensure a continued supply of talent to the UK animation industry.

"Step Up to Unreal" starts today - a new free introduction to Unreal Engine at Escape Studios from Monday 23rd to Friday 27th May 2022. 

The event has been made possible by ScreenSkills, and offers students the chance to take a paid work placement with some of the best VFX film and TV studios in the UK.

Animation Trainee Finder is being launched by the ScreenSkills Animation Skills Council with the support of UK animationStudios.  The deadline to apply is 27 September 2021.

Hiring - what are the rules?

On Thursday 25 March at 4pm Screen Skills is hosting a free webinar for UK animation studios looking to hire overseas animation talent post-Brexit. What are the rules? How easy/difficult is it to hire EU talent since the Brexit divorce, and what about remote working? 

The webinar, which will be presented by immigration lawyers Anna Blackden and Elisabeth Kynaston, is aimed at animation studio owners and recruiters looking to hire non-UK animation talent in the post-Brexit immigration system. To sign up, follow this link.

Storyboard artists "skills shortage"

Storyboarding continues to be an area of "severe skills shortage" in the animation industry, according to a recent report from Screen Skills (the organisation formerly known as Creative Skillset).  Screen Skills reports a shortage among "storyboard artists, story supervisors, story revisionists - across all levels". 

Industry has been telling us for many years that storyboarding is an area of critical skills shortage.  As animation production in the UK has expanded rapidly over the last five years, the supply of talent has not kept pace, hence our new MA in Storyboarding, which starts on 28 June.
