Jerich0, wins "Best Sound Design" at FoF Awards

Many congratulations to the makers of Jerich0, which has won an award for "Best Sound Design" at the Future of Film Awards.

Jerich0 is a short VFX film about a lonely robot who builds a friend.  This is the latest of many awards for the BAFTA-shortlisted Jerich0; directed by Sarah Andrews, and produced by Matt Wight.  

Sound Design was by Aaron Hopwood and the original score was composed by Alexandra Harwood.

Working with Dinosaurs wins Best Comedy at FoFF

Many congratulations to the makers of the animated short film "Working with Dinosaurs", which has won "Best Comedy" at the Future of Film Festival.

Working with Dinosaurs is a "mockumentary" short completed by 2nd year undergraduate animation students at Escape Studios, with industry mentors Framestore.  It was directed by Daniel Dutton and Harry Pearson, and produced by Velvet Brandon.  Storyboards and Art Direction were by Sarah Andrews; Effects Animation was by Adam Scrivener, and the CG supervisor was Piotr Noworyta.

Drawing Club is Back on Wednesday 20 Oct

Drawing Club is Back!  Sharpen your pencils - Escape Studios' Drawing Club returns weekly from Wednesday 20th October in Room 2.1 at 190 High Holborn from 16:45 until 17:45. 

The club is run by our amazing Studio Assistants - including Sarah Andrews, director of the award-winning short film Jerich0.  Sarah often lends her artistic skills to the banners and posters you see around campus and on newsletters. 

Drawing Club is free and open to everyone - even you haven’t picked up a pencil in years.  Drawing Club is a great opportunity to learn something new, get the rust off your pencils - or just get away from the computer screen.

Drawing remains a very useful skill in the animator's toolkit - for designs, storyboards, thumbnail sketches and scene planning. Animation often begins with a rough sketch.

Many congratulations to the makers of Jerich0, the BAFTA-shortlisted short film created at Escape Studios, which impressed the judges at Cartoon Springboard this year. 

The event even made its way into the pages of Variety, with the headline "Animated Short ‘Jerich0’ Series Adaptation Wows at Cartoon Springboard."

According to Variety: "Alumni of London’s elite Escape Studios, writer-director Sarah Andrews and assistant director, animation lead and sound designer Aaron Hopwood, participated in this year’s Cartoon Springboard project pitching sessions, looking to leverage the success of their short student film “Jerich0” into a short form series adaptation."

This award is the latest in a string of festival successes for Jerich0, which has won multiple festival prizes.

"Jerich0" Pitch: Cartoon Springboard Oct 27-29

We're proud to announce that the short film "Jerich0", directed by Sarah Andrews, has been selected for this year's Cartoon Springboard, the annual pitching event that takes place from October 27 to October 29 in Valencia, Spain. 

Like other animation events, Cartoon Springboard will be online this year.  Sarah and her team will be pitching to industry delegates, including producers, broadcasters and sales agents, seeking ways to capitalise on Jerich0's festival success.

In this webinar, hosted at the official Escape Studios YouTube Channel, Escapee and animation director Sarah Andrews explains the process of making her short film Jerich0, which has been winning awards in multiple film festivals, including being short-listed for a student BAFTA.  In this 20 minute video, Sarah explores the production pipeline, how the film was made, and some of the hurdles and challenges which the team had to overcome.

Jerich0 Winner at Leeds Young Film Festival

Many congratulations to the makers of Jerich0, which has won an award at Leeds Young Film Festival, the latest in a string of festival successes.

Jerich0 has won multiple festival awards; it won Best Animation at the Melrose Film Festival in Orlando, Florida, was shortlisted for a student BAFTA, and won Best Animation and Best VFX at the 2019 Nexus Film Festival.  Jerich0 also won an award in the 2019 Zero Budget Film Festival,  was selected for the BFI London Film Festival, and won "Best Animation" at the Golden Nugget Film Festival.

Jerich0 Wins Best Animation in Budapest

Congratulations to the makers of Jerich0, which has won Best Animation at the Budapest Independent Film Festival 2020.

This is the latest in a long string of awards for the film, which was directed by Sarah Andrews and completed by our third year undergraduate animation students, as part of PR6001, a Studio Project module worth 60 credits.

Drawing Club is Back - Every Tuesday

Drawing Club is back, taking place every tuesday in the basement at 190 High Holborn.

There are two classes, running from 12.45pm to 1.45pm, and from 4.45pm to 5.45pm.

Even if you can barely draw a stick figure - come along and get stuck in. Drawing club is for beginners as well as experts, so don't be shy.

Jericho wins Best Animation at Melrose Festival

Many congratulations to director Sarah Andrews and the makers of the short film Jericho, completed by our third year undergraduate animation students, which has won Best Animation at the the Melrose Film Festival in Orlando, Florida.

Jericho is a short film about a lonely robot searching for a friend. It was shortlisted for a student BAFTA, and won Best Animation and Best VFX at the Nexus Film Festival earlier this year.

Jericho will be screened along with Home Sweet Home at the London Film Festival at the BFI on Saturday, October 5th. 

Sarah Andrews Intern at Sliced Bread

Many congratulations to Sarah Andrews, third year undergraduate animation student at Escape Studios who has secured an 8 week summer internship storyboarding with Sliced Bread Animation in Bethnal Green.

Sliced Bread is a multi-disciplined, multi-award-winning digital animation studio based in London, creating animation for a wide variety of clients, including Sony, Coca-Cola, Microsoft and Unilever.

Sliced Bread produce "high-impact, bespoke animations and applications for marketing and corporate communications, including virtual and augmented reality projects."

Sarah Andrews is an award-winning animator and storyboard artist who has worked on many projects at Escape Studios; specialising in storyboarding in her final year. 

Escape Studios Rocks "The Rookies"

Our Games, VFX and Animation students have made a stellar showing in this years' Rookies contest, with a multiple projects reaching the finals in all three disciplines.

BAFTA Short-listed Short film Jerich0, directed by animator Sarah Andrews and produced by VFX artist Matt Wight, made it to the finals for VFX Film of the Year.

And 3rd year undergraduate animation student Maria Roberton's animation reel is a finalist for 3D Animator Rookie of the Year.
