"The Descent" wins "Best Trailer" at Dreamachine Fest

Congratulations to the makers of "The Descent", the short film created by our second year animation students at Escape Studios, which has won "Best Trailer" at the Dreamachine Film Awards.

The Descent was directed Sirisha Mutty and produced by Belle Leuschke, and was completed as part of Studio Module PR5001, a collaborative module in which second-year animation students work together on short films. 

This is the latest of many festival awards.

Introducing "Backtrack" - the latest short film created at Escape Studios.   "Backtrack" is a teaser/trailer for an animated film telling the story of a young athlete who is bullied at school.  Can our hero overcome the odds and win the school track competition?  The Backtrack trailer was directed by Philippa "Pip" Cowen and produced by Sihaam "Simu" Weheliye.

Congratulations to the makers of "The Golden Acorn", which has won an award for Best Trailer at the Future of Film Awards.

"The Golden Acorn" is a movie trailer completed by 2nd year undergraduate Escape Studios Animation students, written & directed by Maciej Osuch, edited & produced by Miguel Teixeira. 

In The Golden Acorn a detective duo team up in NutTown to defeat an evil squirrel crime boss - two agents, one nutcase.  The Golden Acorn has won many festival awards.

Congratulations to the makers of "Amarok", which has won Best Trailer at the VIZ Film Festival.

Amarok was written and directed by Shenaaz Suliman and produced by Josiah Martin-Lofters.  

Amarok tells the story of a First Nations police detective in a remote town in Northern Canada where a curfew is imposed as a savage wolf stalks the community.  Amarok has won many festival awards.

A Long Way Home is a teaser/trailer directed by Harrison Bell and produced by Josiah Martin-Lofters, about an orphaned girl searching for her biological mother.

This is the fourth award for "Death From Above", a teaser/trailer for an action adventure web series. 

The short was directed by Jordan Coles, and produced by Callum Wylie; Cinematography was by Daniel Brand-Sinyinza.

Introducing "The Leaching" by Lee Caller

Meet "The Leaching" - a short teaser/trailer animated by Escape Studios animation tutor Lee Caller.

"The Leaching" is a teaser/trailer for an animated horror film, currently in development. 

Lee Caller, who has a master's degree in animation from Buckinghamshire New University, teaches our Short Course, Advanced Animation, and Animation Masters students. 

Lee is an experienced animator with a natural flair for story telling, camera and animation.  His short film "Jelly Cars" has already won a number of festival awards.  The Leaching is currently being entered into competition in film festivals, and was a finalist at the Prague Film Festival and the Kosice Film Festival.

It's a well-deserved award for a film which was a finalist in the TMFF - The Monthly Film Festival on April 30th, and also won Best Trailer at the Halicarnassus Film Festival.

Our second year animation students have just completed the first half of Studio Module PR5001, in which they collaborate together on short film projects.  Over the past seven weeks, six students created Escape Studios' very first animated horror trailer: "Death From Above".  The film was animated in Maya, rendered in Unreal Engine 4, and edited in Adobe Premiere and After Effects.  Directed by Jordan Coles, and Produced by Callum Wylie, the project was edited by Daniel Brand-Sinyinza, and the CG supervisor was Edoardo Sartori. Storyboarding was by Niki Valera and Tequila Mason. You can find Death From Above at the IMDB here.

Animation Meets Publishing on 20 June

Bloomsbury, the publishing house who brought Harry Potter to the world, are hosting a special event for animators and video editors on 20 June at 6.30pm at their 50 Bedford Square HQ.

How to Make an Animated Teaser/Trailer

Our second year undergraduate animators at Escape Studios are currently working in teams on their first studio project - making a teaser or trailer for an upcoming film, TV series or video game. Of course, the project itself isn't a real one, but the finished teaser/trailer should make it feel real, and should make the audience want to go and see it. Making a teaser or trailer is a lot like making a short film, albeit a rather specialised one. There are many elements to consider, from concept to script through storyboard, design, 3D layout, cinematography, animation, lighting and final render. So, how do our students go about successfully making a teaser or trailer?
