Harmony Evening Class Returns on 6 March 2025

Our 2D Animation Online Evening class in Toonboom Harmony returns to Escape Studios on 6 March 2025.

Learn the fundamentals of 2D animation over 10 weeks, one evening a week using Toonboom Harmony, one of the leading software packages for the creation of 2D animation.

The class is taught by industry veteran Iliana Franklin.

We're delighted to announce that Escape Studios has been confirmed as an ATC (Authorised Training Centre) for Toonboom Harmony, one of the leading software packages for the creation of 2D animation.

2D Animation has been experiencing a revival, with many 2D productions being animated in the UK. 

In particular, Blue Zoo, Aardman Animation, Passion Pictures and others have chosen Toonboom Harmony as their principal 2D animation platform.

Iliana Franklin Joins Toonboom Ambassador Program

We're delighted to announce that Escape Studios tutor Iliana Franklin has been appointed "Toon Boom Ambassador" for 2022. 

This is the third year of Toon Boom's Ambassador Program, an annual initiative intended to highlight artists and animators who are developing original content using Toon Boom Harmony and Toon Boom Storyboard Pro.

Toonboom Harmony Course Starts 28 March

Escape Studios is launching a brand-new 12 Week 2D Animation Short Course in Toonboom Harmony starting on 28 March 2022.

Learn the to become an animator using Toonboom Harmony, one of the leading software packages for the creation of 2D animation.

In recent years 2D animation has experienced a significant revival, both in the UK and overseas, as Studios such as Blue Zoo, Aardman Animation, and Brown Bag Films adopt the software.

Toonboom Harmony Licenses at Escape

Toonboom Harmony is back - we're in the processing of installing a number of rolling, annual licenses in Toonboom Harmony, so that our students can access the software at any time.

We also use Harmony for our evening class in 2D Animation, which starts on 18 March.

At the 2019 Annecy animation festival in France it was clear to all of us at Escape that a 2D animation revival is in progress. Here in London, Blue Zoo animation is expanding into 2D, and there are plenty of opportunities for 2D animators - as long as they are properly trained in the right software.

2D Animation with Harmony Starts 29 June

Our newest animation course - three months of intensive training in 2D Animation with Toonboom Harmony - starts on 26th June 2020.

Our new 12 week course is aimed at anyone who wants to learn the art and craft of 2D Animation in Toonboom Harmony, a software package that is increasingly becoming the industry standard for 2D Animation. The course aims to take students to a professional level of skill, making them studio-ready talent.

Taught by veteran animator and animation tutor Jessie Ilham, currently working at Blue Zoo, our course is designed to help our students find employment in the rapidly expanding 2D animation industry, which is undergoing a major renaissance both in the UK and overseas.

Our popular 2D Animation evening class in Toonboom Harmony is returning on Wednesday 18 March 2020.

The class runs for 10 weeks, one evening a week (Tuesdays), and is an introduction to animating in Toonboom Harmony, one of the leading software packages for the creation of 2D animation.

The evening class is taught by Harmony animator Plamen Ananiev, who is an animator at London animation powerhouse Blue Zoo. Harmony animators are much in demand, as 2D animation experiences a significant revival, both in the UK and overseas.

Our popular 2D Animation course in Toonboom Harmony is running again this summer, starting on 3rd September 2019, and also on 3rd September 2019.

The class runs for 8 weeks, one evening a week (tuesdays), and is an introduction to animating in Toonboom Harmony, one of the leading software packages for the creation of 2D animation.

The class is taught by Harmony animator Plamen Ananiev, and mentored by London animation powerhouse Blue Zoo.

Plamen Ananiev is our newest animation tutor, joining us next week for our very first evening class in 2D animation, teaching students to use the latest 2D animation software - Toonboom Harmony.

Why are we running classes in Harmony? Because Harmony is now one of the leading software packages for the creation of 2D animation, such as at London-based animation powerhouse Blue Zoo, which is currently crewing up a whole new division for 2D animation. 

We asked Plamen (currently working on Simon's Cat in London) to talk about his work in the field of 2D Animation - now experiencing a major revival here in the UK and elsewhere. In particular, how can students successfully break into this competitive part of the industry?

Watching the amazing animation done by Ken Duncan's animation studio on Mary Poppins Returns underlines just how much 2D animation skills are still in demand.

It was also clear at last summer's Annecy animation festival in France that a big 2D animation revival is in progress. Here in London, Blue Zoo animation is expanding into 2D work and aggressively recruiting fresh animation talent. So, there are plenty of opportunities for 2D animators - as long as they are properly trained in the right software, of course.
