What is Compositing? And What Do Compositors Do?  For students applying to study visual effects, choosing between 3D VFX and 2D VFX isn't easy, because it isn't immediately clear what the difference is.  In the video above, Escape Studios tutor Allar Kaasik explains in simple terms what compositing is all about, and why he has spent the best part of his career in VFX learning to master it.

Birds Connect Our World wins Best Environmental Short

We're proud to congratulate the makers of the short film "Birds Connect Our World", written, directed and animated by Escapee Wing Lan Lilian Fu, which has won an award for "Best Environmentally Conscious Narrative Short" at the Golden Nugget International Film Festival in London.

Birds Connect Our World was animated in Toonboom Harmony; this is its first festival award.

Introducing "Seeker"

Meet "Seeker", a short VFX film combining live action and animation, completed by our final year students at Escape Studios. "Seeker" is a film about a giant robot seeking out its victim in a quiet suburban setting. The project was directed by Rassoul Edji and produced by Tosin Ogunleye, and overseen by supervising tutors Jonathan McFall and Allar Kaasik.  "Seeker" has already been accepted for two film festivals, despite only having been entered into competition a few days ago.

Introducing "Birds Connect Our World"

We're proud to present the short film "Birds Connect Our World", written, directed and animated by Escapee Wing Lan Lilian Fu.  Lilian took our evening class in animation in ToonBoom Harmony, taught by Plamen Ananiev, and she applied her new skills to make this short film, commissioned by the East Asian-Australasian Flyway Partnership (EAAFP).  The film, which was made entirely under the Corona Lockdown, tackles the challenges faced by migratory birds in Asia, and what can be done to protect them and their natural habitats.

Our Vimeo channel offers our students online learning to supplement our classroom tuition.  We now have a series of videos on Nuke,  the VFX industry's leading compositing software.

Our online tutorials are intended to complement our classroom studies, allowing students at Escape Studios to recap, or catch up on work they missed, while following a tutorial in their own time.
