In this super basic tutorial we show how to do very basic modelling and texturing in Autodesk Maya and Photoshop to create and texture Cereal Box. This tutorial is divided into two parts - the Maya part, where we create the box and UV it (above), and the Photoshop part (below), where we finesse the texturing. This exercise forms part of the basic introduction to Maya - our students can find many more tutorials on animation and VFX at the Vimeo Tutorial Channel here.

Beginner Maya Tutorial - Dice Texture
In the free video tutorial for beginners in Autodesk Maya (we have a lot of new beginners starting with us this month) we tackle a super simple modelling and texturing exercise - how to create a die (single of dice), bevel it, and texture it, downloading a free texture map from the web. The tutorial is aimed at complete beginners who have never used Autodesk Maya before. In addition, you can follow the steps outlined below, including - for extra sophistication - how to add a bump map (not covered in the video above). You can find more videos on modelling and texturing in Maya at our Vimeo Channel here.

New Substance Painter Tutorials at Vimeo
We've uploaded a new series of tutorials on the use of Substance Painter to our Vimeo Tutorial Channel, which is free for all our students and Escapees. The tutorials were recorded by our UG program leader Michael Davies.
You can find this new set of tutorials on Substance Painter here at our Vimeo channel: https://vimeo.com/showcase/5399159
Substance Painter is an important tool that in recent years has been used extensively for texturing, especially in the Games Industry. Recently the Substance Painter tools have developed to be used within the animation and VFX Pipeline, so it's more important than ever that our students are able to learn this increasingly important tool.

Free Textures from Pixar!
Pixar recently released a number of free repeating textures from their archives - for use in 3D animation, under the Creative Commons license.
The archive was first created in 1993, and is now free for use by the rest of us - for the first time ever. Included in the free release are bricks, metals, fabrics, skins, ground surfaces, and tons of other useful stuff.
All of them are designed to repeat seamlessly with no nasty visible joins. So, no more searching Google images for non-copyright material - Pixar makes it easy for us all.
