Our Escape Studios Vimeo Tutorial Channel supports our students with online resources for 3D VFX; the majority of these tutorials were created by Head of Animation Michael Davies.

Our Vimeo Tutorial Channel is our central hub for our animation and VFX video tutorials, making it easy for our students to find tutorials to support their classroom studies.  

We have tutorials on 3D Modelling in Polygons and NURBS, UV Mapping & Texturing,  Materials, Lighting and Rendering in Arnold, Renderman, Unreal Engine, and how to use Qube, the Escape Studios' Render Farm.

Unreal Engine Tutorials at Vimeo

We've uploaded a new series of tutorials at our Vimeo Channel on how to use the Unreal Engine rendering pipeline.

Realtime rendering is a growing part of the animation production pipeline. Whether our students are studying VFX, animation, or games, Unreal Engine offers big savings in render times.

Many of our short films are rendered in Unreal Engine. The short films Planet Mars, Minuet and Adam & Eve Mk II were all rendered in Unreal Engine and enjoyed festival success, winning many awards.

Rigging with Michael Davies Returns 11-14 Jan

3D artist and undergraduate program leader Michael Davies will return on 11 January to teach our second year animation students a master class in "Character Rigging for Animators". 

For three days Michael will take our 2nd year animation students through the fundamentals of rigging their own characters.

The class is part of Module CR5001, a specialism module in which students begin to focus on a chosen specialism of their choice.

Rigging Tutorials at our Vimeo Channel

To support our students who want to get to grips with the art of rigging, Escape Studios tutor Michael Davies has recorded a series of videos on facial rigging for our Vimeo channel.

The Facial Rigging tutorial builds on the existing character rigging tutorials, and is designed to help students develop their skills in character rigging.

This new 12 week course in Character & Creature Creation - first launched in September 2021 - is all about designing, modeling, and rigging your own characters.

We're delighted to announce that 3D Artist and rigging specialist Michael Davies has been promoted to Head of Creative Technology at Escape Studios.

Michael has worked on many VFX blockbusters such as Batman vs Superman, Doctor Strange and Thor Ragnarok - and will be heading up the September launch of our new BSc/MSci Degrees in Animation, Games & VFX.

We've added a new series of tutorials to our expanding Vimeo Channel Z - ZBrush Modeling with Michael Davies
 and with Jonathan McFall.

ZBrush is one of the most popular 3D sculpting tools for visual effects and games in the creative industries.  Students start by learning the need-to-know basics, and quickly progress to sophisticated techniques.  With ZBrush, digital artists can quickly create a custom model or sculpt, working intuitively to get effective results.
