Tutor Spotlight - Michael Davies

Michael Davies - Head of Creative Technology
We're delighted to announce that 3D Artist and rigging specialist Michael Davies has been promoted to Head of Creative Technology at Escape Studios.

Michael has worked on many VFX blockbusters such as Batman vs Superman, Doctor Strange and Thor Ragnarok - and will be heading up the September launch of our new BSc/MSci Degrees in Animation, Games & VFX.

Industry Credits

Michael rigged Smaug in The Hobbit
Michael has extensive industry experience; he rigged Smaug (The Hobbit) and also The Minions for the Illumination-McGuff studio.

BSc/MSci for Animation, Games & VFX
Michael will be leading our new undergraduate "Tech Degrees" now recruiting for September 2023.  All three degrees have come about as a result of long consultation with industry, seeking to establish the right mix of creativity and technical skills needed in the modern animation, games and VFX industries.

Our three new courses are BSc/MSci Technical Art for Games & VFX, BSc/MSci Video Games Design
and BSc/MSci Character Creation for Animation, Games and VFX.

Rigging and 3D Modeling
Michael's areas of expertise include rigging and 3D modelling; he has also worked extensively in industry as a 3D Generalist and CG Supervisor.

Michael served as Head of Animation at Escape Studios for two years, and he has also run our 3rd year undergraduate programme, as well as designing and launching our MA in Character and Creature Creation.

Head of Creative Technology
As Head of Creative Technology, Michael is leading our new suite of BSc/MSci Degrees in Animation, Games & VFX.

Autodesk Accreditation
Michael is also an Accredited Trainer for Maya at Autodesk.
