New BSc/MSci Degrees for Animation, Games & VFX

"Goblin" by Paul Strachan, MA Character Creation
We're delighted to announce three new undergraduate "Tech Degrees" now recruiting for September 2023.  All three degrees have come about as a result of long consultation with industry, seeking to establish the right mix of creativity and technical skills needed in the modern animation, games and VFX industries.

Three New BSc/MSci Courses
We'll be talking a lot more about these three new degrees in the coming months as we expand our undergraduate courses into the more technical side of the animation, games and VFX industries.  The three new degrees are:

1. BSc/MSci Technical Art for Games & VFX
Fire FX created in Houdini, courtesy of Cinesite.
This new BSc/MSci degree is all about problem solving in Games and VFX, finding creative solutions and being part of a team.

Technical Artists are the bridge between code and art, they are the people who innovate solutions, write scripts, use code and maths in software packages and game engines that enable artists to make great graphics or ensure that FX simulations not only look amazing but are efficient. Technical Artists are highly sought after in industry with great employment opportunities across games, animation and VFX.

2. BSc/MSci Video Games Design
"Order of Quadrivium" - created at Escape Studios
Taught by industry professionals, games design students will learn to design video games from concept to implementation, developing gameplay, environments and user experiences to produce engaging play experiences.

Students will learn the transferable skills to work and support teams in both technical and artistic capacities, across different real-time and interactive production environments, such as virtual reality and other forms of interactive entertainment.

3. BSc/MSci Character Creation for Animation, Games and VFX
Lizard man created by Paul Strachan at Escape Studios
This course builds on our successful MA in Character & Creature Creation.  Students will learn the character creation pipeline from concept to implementation, developing models, character rigs and FX.  This will require work at all points in the production pipeline, including simulations of muscles, cloth and fur.

Students will learn work in and support teams in both technical and artistic capacities across different outputs such as complex character simulations, and real-time and interactive production environments, such as virtual reality and other forms of interactive entertainment.
