The MA in 3D Animation is still a relatively new course - our first post-graduate degree in animation was first launched in September 2018.

The course teaches the full skillset to prepare students for a career in animation, as well as engaging with the theory and practice of the medium at masters' level.

Who is this course for?
This course is aimed at anyone who wants to learn the art and craft of 3D Animation in Maya, and also receive a formal qualification in the field.

You might be a 2D animator wanting to break into 3D, or a graduate who didn’t get the right skills at university – or someone with no experience of animation who wants to make a career change. A MA is especially useful for any practitioner who wants to teach their subject at university level.

We teach all our students from scratch, and our goal is to make you job-ready by the end of the course.

Entry Requirements
We look for an undergraduate honours degree (such as a Batchelor of Arts), ideally (but not necessarily) with a significant component in the field of animation or a related arts or computer discipline.

BAFTA Eligible
Scholarships
We also offer a scholarship to one MA student, worth up to £8,000. You can find the details here

Our MA is also eligible for a BAFTA scholarship, worth up to £12,000. Find out more here.

What's this course all about?
We take you through all the essential principles of animation from the very beginning – bouncing a ball – through to sophisticated character and creature animation.

We start with the basics of motion and locomotion, building up to pantomime, character performance, and also tackling animals and creatures.

Animation by Jamie Floodgate, now at Blue Zoo in London
Job opportunities
London has a strong focus on visual effects work and we want our students to be able to tackle the challenges and opportunities in our local market.

By the end of the course you should have a polished video portfolio in the shape of an online demo reel to help you find work in this growing but competitive industry.

Course Design
The animation program has been refined over many years, constantly being adapted to suit the needs of industry, and following extensive industry consultation. The Masters' degree course combines the existing 12 week courses structure of our animation short course with two extra modules, a studio project module and a self-study module.

Module Structure
  • AN7001 Module 1 - Locomotion and Mechanics (30 Credits)
