AN5001 Character Animation Starts 31 October 2022

Module AN5001 "Computer Animation Pro", our character animation module, starts on Monday 31st October 2022.

This year, AN5001 is the second animation module that our undergraduate students encounter in their second year of studies, in which our students study the art and craft of character animation.   In AN5001 our animation students tackle character actions, pantomime, acting, performance and dialogue, and enter the monthly 11 Second Club competition.  The Individual Portfolio Assignment is due on Wednesday 14 December 2022. The Retrospective is due on Monday 19th December 2022.

Building on AN4001 and 
Students will build on the animation skills they learned in their first year of studies, in AN4001 - Introduction to Animation, and also AN5002 - animal and creature animation.

AN5001
In Module AN5001 our students tackle character animation and acting, and the module culminates in an entry in the monthly 11 Second Club competition.

Second Year UG Studies

The second year of undergraduate animation studies at Escape Studios contains four modules, which run sequentially from September 2021 until the end of May 2022.  Together these four modules are worth 120 credits.

Tutors - Alex Williams & Marc Stevenson
This year we have two animation tutors at Level 5. Like last year, I'll be teaching one of the classes, and this year we welcome veteran animator Marc Stevenson to teach the art and craft of character animation.

AN5001 Computer Animation Pro
AN5001 is the animation module in which students tackle character actions, pantomine, acting, performance and dialogue.  The module is worth a total of 30 credits.

11 Second Club Competition
The module culminates in an entry in the monthly 11 Second Club competition. 

In 2019 two of our students, Paloma Zhu and Eilin Berrio Pena, ranked 3rd and 4th respectively in the competition. In 2018 all our students placed in the top half of the competition, and six placed in the top 30.  In 2017 five of our students placed in the top twenty entries in the competition.  You can see more 11 Second Club Entries at our YouTube Channel here.

Where and when
Classes are taught in Winterfell and ToonTown on the Third Floor at 190 High Holborn. 

Schedule
Classes begin on Monday 1st November at 9.30am at 190 High Holborn. The module lasts for seven weeks. See outline schedule below:



Individual Portfolio Assignment Due Date

The final assignment is an entry into the monthly 11 Second Club, in this case the December competition.  The Individual Portfolio Assignment is due on Wednesday 14 December 2022 at 11.59pm. 

Presentations and peer marking will take place on Thursday 15 December 2022. 

Retrospective Due Date
The Retrospective is due on the evening of Monday 19th December 2022 at 11.59pm.  Submission is a single PDF document.
