VFX Project - Get Ready to Pitch! - 19 May 2022

Alba Rodriguez pitches "Explosive Love"
On Thursday 19th May at 1.30pm we will hear pitches from our 2nd year animation & VFX students for PR6001 Studio Project Module, which starts in September 2022.

This pitch presentation is where our students first present their idea for a VFX Project to go into production in September.

What sort of story is it? Who are the characters, and why do we care about them? Why does the audience want to see this film?

Pitch VFX ideas on Thursday 19th May
Where and When
Pitches will take place on the second floor at 190 High Holborn at 1.30pm on Thursday 19th May 2022.

What Are We Looking For?
We're looking for short stories, around 60-90 seconds long, which will combine a live action shoot with visual effects.  To see more about why we like short subjects, read about the "60-90 Second Challenge".

Who is Invited?
All of our 2nd Year Animation and VFX undergraduate students are invited to pitch ideas, and we also welcome pitches from other students at Escape studios, such as those studying Storyboarding and Previsualisation.

What is the VFX Project?
"Kiwi's Dream" has won around two dozen awards
In September our 2nd year undergraduates begin Studio Project Module PR6001, where students collaborate to work together on group projects.  This module is part of the Third Year of Study at Escape Studios, where our students work together in groups to produce short films.

12 Weeks
The VFX Project starts in September 2022, and is designed to simulate as closely as possible the experience of working at a VFX Studio such as Framestore or MPC.  The VFX Project runs for 12 weeks until the end of December 2022.

Award-Winning Films
All of last year's successful pitches went on to become award-winning films.  You can see some of the awards by following this link.

How to Pitch
For a brief introduction to the art of the pitch, watch the short video below.

Ten Minutes
Ten Minutes
Each student will have ten minutes: an initial eight minutes to make their pitch, then two more minutes to take questions
 Ask yourself these key questions:
  • What is the story do you want to tell?
  • Who are the main characters, and why do we care about them?
  • What is the hook? Why do we the audience want to see this film?
Your pitch is your chance to capture your audience's attention, intrigue them, and make them want more.  Ten minutes may not sound like much time, but one of the key skills our students must learn is how to make a brief, succinct and persuasive pitch, just like in industry.
