This online course is taught by experienced industry professionals and aims to prepare students for careers in the motion graphic and motion design industries.

What is Motion Graphics?
Industries as diverse as broadcast, games, web, advertising and UX/UI all use some form of motion design to communicate with their audiences.

Motion design is a rapidly-evolving discipline that combines animation and design principles to create compelling moving image content.  This evening course introduces students to the theory and practice of creating motion graphics.

Software includes Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Maxon Cinema 4D and Redshift.

Course Content

Week 1 - Introduction to Motion Graphics
  • History
  • What is Motion Graphics, what do we all love about it and aspire to create?
  • Types of animation and basic frame by frame
  • Introduction to the Adobe Suite and Cinema 4D (C4D)
  • Briefing, concept, moodboard, storyboard and style frame
  • Project - Simple Loop Animation - GIF

Week 2 and 3 - The basics
  • Homework feedback
  • The basic principles of animation
  • Introduction to After Effects and Adobe suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, Bridge)
  • Introduction to C4D
  • Integrating After Effects and C4D
  • Project - Open Title / promo

Week 4 - Typography basics
  • Homework Feedback
  • How to use and animate typography on your project
  • Focusing your ideas, looking further
  • Integrating After Effects and C4D and more

Week 5 and 6 - Basic character animation

  • Character design in Illustrator/Photoshop

Week 7 - Briefing and pitching idea
