Graduation Day!

2021 Graduation Ceremony

Yesterday was Graduation Day at Escape Studios.  This year's long-delayed graduation ceremony was held at the Mermaid Theatre in Blackfriars, London, on the banks of the River Thames. 

We were able to welcome our graduating students from 2021 and 2020 for the graduation ceremony and for a drinks reception afterwards.

The graduation ceremony is a formal occasion to celebrate our students' achievement, and has only been possible since the official relaxation of Covid restrictions.  

As you can see from the photo above, it involved lots of dressing-up in fancy robes, and the wearing of silly hats. 

The three colourful characters in the centre of the photo are (from left) our Dean Ian Palmer, Chair of Governors Anne Morrison (who gave the main address), and the principal of Pearson College London Roxanne Stockwell.

This year's ceremony was special because it was the first time we had seen many Escapees since Lockdown. 

It was also a chance to catch up on the latest news - such as who is working where, and for whom.  The UK animation and VFX industry is very busy right now - and it was a pleasure to see so many of our graduates pursuing successful careers in their chosen field.

Escapees Ross Green and Lucy Harris both gave articulate and emotional speeches about how much studying at Escape Studios had meant to them, and there was a palpable sense of community among our graduates, many of whom are now working together at studios such as Blue Zoo, Jellyfish, ILM and MPC.
