Who Teaches 2D Animation at Escape Studios? Meet our talented 2D Animation team, the folks who are delivering our new 2D Animation Pathway at Escape Studios.  

We have many animation tutors with experience in 2D animation; a growing number are now also teaching with the latest 2D animation software - Toonboom Harmony.

In recent years 2D Animation has experienced a significant revival both in the UK and overseas, as Studios such as Blue Zoo, Aardman Animation, and Brown Bag Films adopt new software such as ToonBoom Harmony.

Steve Lall teaches at Escape Studios

Steve Lall

Escapee Steve Lall has a decade of experience of working in advertising and animation, both 2D and 3D.

Steve teaches animation to our undergraduate students at all levels, including teaching AN4001 "Locomotion & Mechanics" to our first year animation students, and also supervising the third year film projects.

Steve's broad animation skillset also includes graphic design, film editing, lighting & rendering, and also managing the motion capture pipeline.

Iliana Franklin - Animator, Story & Previs Artist

Iliana Franklin

Iliana Franklin leads our MA in Storyboarding & Previsualisation.  Iliana is a storyboard artist and animator with over 30 years of experience in the animation industry.

Iliana's feature credits include The Tale of Desperaux, A Monkey’s Tale (1999) and The Princess and the Pea (2002). Iliana has also worked on many TV series.

Iliana also runs her own production company Mediaframe, a UK based creative consultancy, specializing in content development and production for illustrative, interactive and screen based media. Iliana currently teaches our evening class in 2D animation in Toonboom Harmony. 

Alexander Williams - Animation

Alexander Williams

Alexander Williams is Dean of Animation and Visual Effects at Escape Studios. 

Alex's 2D film credits include Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Thief and The Cobbler, The Ling King, Pocahontas, The Iron Giant, Looney Tunes - Back in Action, The Road to El Dorado, Spirit - Stallion of the Cimarron, and Sinbad.  

Alex has worked for most of the major animation studios including Disney, DreamWorks, Fox, Sony and Warner Bros. 

Julien Rashti

In January 2023 we welcomed Julien Rashti to Escape Studios as our newest animation tutor. Julien is currently teaching AN4001 "Locomotion & Mechanics" to our first year animation students. Julien comes to us from MPC where he worked on animated films such as "Pinocchio", "Disenchanted" and the forthcoming remake of Disney's "Snow White".

Julien has skills in both 3D and also 2D animation - as we broaden our animation teaching to embrace the recent revival in 2D computer animation.

Studio Assistant - Stevie Stedman - 2D Animator

Stevie Stedman

Escapee Stevie Stedman is currently working as a Studio Assistant at Escape Studios, helping out our undergraduate animators as they get to grips with Toonboom Harmony.

Stevie took our MA in Storyboarding & Previsualisation, graduating with a Distinction.  While at Escape Studios, Stevie has written, directed and produced a number of award-winning films, such as "Hat Shop", which Stevie wrote and directed, and which has won many festival awards.

Studio Assistants at Escape Studios help to give our students classroom feedback and solve technical problems; we couldn't manage without them.
