Aaron Hopwood Animator at Chinese Room

Many congratulations to Escapee Aaron Hopwood, who has started work as a Games Animator at Chinese Room, a games animation studio based in Brighton, Sussex.

Aaron graduated from Escape Studios with a first-class degree in the Art of 3D animation, and later became a Studio Assistant at Escape Studios, helping to train and guide the next  generation of animators.

at Escape Studios, Aaron was the animation lead on Jericho, and co-directed the short film Minuet. Both films have won multiple festival awards.

Chinese Room

The Chinese Room is an award-winning game development studio based in Brighton.  Since 2012 they have built a reputation for innovative first-person gaming.  

Chinese Room titles include Dear Esther; Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs; Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture; So Let Us Melt and Little Orpheus for Apple Arcade.

While at Escape Studios, Aaron Hopwood was the animation lead on Jericho, a short film about a lonely robot searching for friendship.  Jericho has won many festival awards including being shortlisted for a student BAFTA.

Aaron also co-directed the multiple-award-winning short film Minuet.  Overseen by third year animation tutor Michael Davies, and directed by Aaron Hopwood and Harry Pearson, the project was animated in Maya, and rendered in Unreal Engine.

Minuet has won many awards including Best Animation in the 2019 Zero Budget Film Festival and Best Animation in the Golden Nugget International Film Festival
