Meet Your Tutors - Photographer Michael Hunter

Michael Hunter teaches Photography and Composition
Michael Hunter is a professional photographer who teaches Photography and Composition to our first year students at Escape Studios.

One of the first mini-modules our students will tackle in their first year at Escape Studios, "Photography and Composition ", introduces students to the art and craft of photography, and the compositional skills that underpin the medium.

Photography & Composition With Michael Hunter
Michael Hunter is an experienced photographer whose work has been exhibited widely.  In Photography and Composition students learn the fundamental principles of Photography and Composition that can be applied to all areas of animation, games and visual effects.  These fundamental skills will be applied throughout our students' years of study at Escape Studios, whatever their chosen field of specialism.

Photography
DSLR camera - how it works
At Escape Studios all our students, whatever their final discipline is likely to be, must understand the basics of how cameras function.

DSLR Cameras
In Photography and Composition students will learn how DSLR cameras work and have the opportunity to shoot with them in manual mode in the streets of London.  Students will learn about aperture, shutter speed, different lenses (and what they do) and camera ISO.

Student photography
Art of Photography
Students will also be introduced to the art and work of notable photographers, and have the chance to learn from some of the masters of the medium.

Composition
Students will also be introduced to the principles of composition, learning to dissect the shape of images and understand how line, form, negative space and perspective all combine to make strong and dynamic visual imagery.

The mini-module runs over four weeks and consists of in-class lectures, practical tutorials and self-led shooting using the DSLR cameras.

Portfolio Brief
Student photography
Students work towards a final portfolio that comprises three separate elements. Students are expected to
  1. Research the technicalities and science of modern DSLR cameras
  2. Write about their composition
  3. Shoot photographic images to a defined brief.

The three sections together make up the complete portfolio.
