Body Mechanics Tutorial with Amedeo Beretta
We've uploaded a new Body Mechanics Tutorial to our Vimeo Tutorial Channel.

The tutorial was recorded by Escape Studios tutor Amedeo Beretta, who will teach our 2nd year undergraduate animators this September.

You can find the new body mechanics tutorial, using the free "Ultimate Walker" rig, here: https://vimeo.com/showcase/7400864

Body Mechanics Tutorial
Body Mechanics Tutorial - screen grab
In this multipart 4K tutorial, Amedeo Beretta demonstrates an animation workflow to structure and deliver a basic bipedal body mechanics shot in Maya.

Blocking, Pose-to-Pose and Spline
Starting from advice on how to stitch and edit together multiple takes from video references, Amedeo breaks down the complex motion into smaller, manageable chunks, showing how to build a broad blocking pass, progressively refining it by adding more and more detail, while following a mixed layering and pose to pose approach.

Live action reference
In this video, Amedeo shows how to use live action reference to inform the animation, making it believable, lifelike and accurate.

Intermediate Level Tutorial
This intermediate level tutorial requires some familiarity with animating in Maya, and also a basic proficiency with animating run cycles (If you haven't yet tackled a run cycle, take a look first at Amedeo's Run Cycle Tutorial with Rocket Girl). Understanding the basics of animation layers will greatly help, too.
