Character Design - 2018 Student Showcase

Andrea Torrejon

Escape Studios recently concluded another 8 week evening class in character design, taught by the very talented Andrea Torrejon.

Andrea is an experienced industry professional, who has most recently been working on the Disney project "Dalmation Street" for Passion Pictures in London.

Andrea's class has produced some stunning artwork - check out some of her students' work below.

First up is some lovely work by Joshua Howland-Roohi, a character line-up with three characters. Below is a series of expressions by the same artist.

Under Andrea's supervision, students are trained to produce all the artwork needed to bring a character to the screen, including turnarounds and expression sheets.

Next up is the very talented Nora Racz, who has created the cute character below, including a character lineup.

It's a pleasure to see such good work being done by our students.  Being able to develop a visual style and make it useful for industry is very much what our evening class in character design is all about. The course ends with an industry brief; in the end all our work as commercial artists must be suited to a production pipeline, and this means understanding the needs of any individual client project, and making sure that enough information is supplied to keep the project moving forward.

We have two character design classes coming up at Escape Studios:

• 8 week part-time evening class (one evening per week) in character design with Andrea Torrejon, starting on 4 March 2019
• 4 week intensive character design class with Blue Zoo's Josh O'Brien starting on 2 September 2019.
