Storyboarding Returns to Escape Studios

Iliana Franklin teaches at Escape Studios
On Monday we are welcoming back special guest tutor Iliana Franklin to teach the art and craft of storyboarding to our second year animation students.

Iliana will teach a practical and industry-led approach to storyboarding, using both traditional drawing skills and also digital techniques.

Storyboarding
Iliana will challenge our students to create a short storyboard piece in-class to a professional standard, utilising skills such as gesture drawing, to make their characters as expressive as possible.

Storyboarding is a skill that every film-maker needs at some point in their career,  even if they don't draw well or find drawing a struggle. Being able to express a sequence of shots visually is one of the key skills in narrative storytelling, and we take seriously the need to give our students all the skills needed to become successful film-makers.

Tutor
Iliana Franklin is an experienced animator whose credits include Framestore's The Tale of Despereaux. She is a veteran storyboard artist and also runs her own production company Mediaframe.  You can see more about her work at her online portfolio.

Software
We have two new software packages recently installed at Escape Studios. Toonboom Storyboard Pro, and Panel Forge, the latter a hybrid software that blends 3d modeling resources with drawing tools.

Evening class
Don't forget we also run evening classes in storyboarding. The next class, taught by the very talented Chess Adams, starts on March 6th and runs for 8 weeks

The Escape Studios Animation Blog offers a personal view on the art of animation and visual effects. To find out more about our new BA/MArt, now recruiting for September 2019, follow this link.   To apply, visit the offical page here.
