UCAS Deadline - January 15th 2019

UCAS - time to apply
Thinking of applying to Escape Studios to study the Art of 3D Animation, Games or Visual effects?  The UCAS deadline of January 15th is fast approaching.  We are welcoming applications for the fourth intake of our new integrated BA/MArt in Animation, Games and VFX - launched in September 2016.

One of the most common questions I get asked by prospective students is this: "should I wait to apply until I have finished my portfolio?" The answer is a definite "no".  Get your application in early, and worry about your portfolio later. You'll have plenty of time before attending one of our Creative Workshops to pull your portfolio together.

When Should you apply?
Right now.  The official UCAS deadline is 15 January. In fact, Escape Studios is always on the look out for talent, and even if you apply later in the year we will still consider you.  But applying on time or even early is a good thing; it shows you have drive and commitment, and that you have got yourself well-organised - all good qualities for a career in the creative industries.

Why choose Escape Studios?
Because we have a long track record of placing students in the industry. All our tutors have industry-relevant experience and we know what skills are needed to get a job.

Is there a video which explains all about the course?
Watch our official course video here. It's only a few minutes long, and it explains what we're trying to do here at Escape Studios.

Partnerships with Industry
With around 4,000 Escapees working in the industry, Escape Studios have years of experience of forging partnerships with the animation and VFX business, especially the with the visual effects industry in Soho, London.
One of London's leading VFX houses

Soho, home to the UK's animation and VFX industry, is just a ten minute walk from our Holborn campus.

We also have informal connections to Framestore, Cinesite, MPC and other visual effects houses in London and many studios overseas.

Where can you see the past work done by Escapees?
Take a look at past video compilations showcasing some of the work done by our students, and student demo reels.

Will you have to come for interview and if so do you need a portfolio?
We interview all our candidates at our Creative Workshop days, largely because we want to make sure that you are a good fit for our course, and vice versa - we don't want anyone to sign up at Escape and be disappointed. And yes, you will need a portfolio - check out our post here on portfolio suggestions.

Does Escape Studios help our graduates find work?
We make strenuous efforts to help our students find work.  Of course, the key ingredient to finding work in the industry is to cut a great demo reel. Visit the Escape Studios YouTube channel to see some of the many excellent demo reels put together by our graduates.

How much does it all cost and are there loans available?
Right now a degree at Escape Studios costs £9,000 a year, but this will likely be reduced to £6,500 if you successfully attend and complete one of our Creative Workshops. The fee waiver and details of the Creative Workshop can be found here.

Government loans
There is a well-funded system of low-interest government loans in place, and in addition some scholarships and bursaries are available here. You can read our handy guide to the system here.

How should you get ready for the course?
Start reading the right books! Here is a list of useful books to get you started. Number one is The Animator's Survival Kit - every student should have a copy. Also, check out the week 1 videos at Animation Apprentice, which are a great introduction to the art of animation. They are all free.

Better yet, come and visit us at one of our Open Days, Experience Days or Taster Days - and see for yourself. Don't be shy! We're glad to talk, and we even offer free coffee and muffins.

And finally...why not take our virtual tour?

The Escape Studios Animation Blog offers a personal view on the art of animation and visual effects. To find out more about our new BA/MArt, now recruiting for September 2019,  follow this link.   To apply, visit the offical page here.
