Storyboard Tips by Jim Mortensen at Gumroad

storyboard tips and tricks by Jim Mortensen
We're loving these free Storyboard Tips, hosted at at Gumroad, created by DreamWorks storyboard artist and director Jim Mortensen.

It's a great introduction to the art and craft of storyboarding, highlighting some of the common pitfalls experienced by junior board artists.

Why learn storyboarding?
Skilled storyboard artists are always in demand, and industry tells us that there is a serious skills shortage here in the UK.

Storyboarding is a complex craft that involves the ability to tell a story visually using both traditional drawing and also (increasingly) 3D skills.

Storyboard artists must also understand acting, performance, cinematography - and also have a sense of fun and entertainment about their work.  Above all, they must learn to be clear.

Career opportunities
Great board artists often become directors - storyboarding is a well-established route to the top of our industry. And, as the animation industry in the UK continues to expand, there is more demand than ever for creative leaders who have the craft to tell a story in a compelling way.

Storyboarding at Escape Studios
Storyboarding is expanding here at Escape Studios.
We're also in the process of developing a much bigger and more ambitious storyboarding course, a zero-to-hero "soup to nuts" course that will also encompass previsualisation and cinematography.

But more on that in the New Year.

The Escape Studios Animation Blog offers a personal view on the art of animation and visual effects. To find out more about our new BA/MArt, now recruiting for September 2019, follow this link.   To apply, visit the official page here
