Offcut wins Best VFX at Kosice Film Fest

Many congratulations to the makers of "Offcut", which has won Best VFX at the Kosice International Film Festival.

Offcut is a short film directed by Petroc Menuhin, produced by Tosin Ogunleye and Ethen Dent, which follows the adventures of a discarded scrap of wood who comes to life and finds meaning in music.   "Offcut" has won many festival awards.

About Offcut

Offcut is a short film directed by Petroc Menuhin, which follows the adventures of a discarded scrap of wood who comes to life and finds meaning in music.  

Crew

Offcut was directed by Petroc Menuhin, produced by Tosin Ogunleye and Ethen Dent.  Cinematography was by Clement Gharini.  The Lead Animator was Daniel Lotter.  The Lead 3D Artist was Oscar Lowe, and the Lead Compositor was James Pratt. 

Studio Project

Offcut was completed as part of the VFX project in the third year animation Module PR6001, a Studio Project worth 60 Credits. In this module our animation and VFX students join forces to produce a visual effects (VFX) project, with three months to take the project from initial pitch to final render.

"Offcut" has won many festival awards:

• Best VFX at Kosice Fest
• Hon Mention Best VFX at LIMFF
• Best Animation at the Beer Town Film Festival in Burton-on-Trent, winning a prize of £500 
• Finalist: "VFX Film of the Year" in The 2020 Rookies
• "Best Under 5 Minute Film" at the Flicks Film Festival
• Best DOP (Director of Photography) at the "We Make Films Festival" in London.
• Best Animation at the Dirigo Film Festival in January 2020
• "Four Star Award" at the British International Amateur Film Festival in April 2020.

In July 2020 "Offcut" was a finalist for "VFX Film of the Year" in The 2020 Rookies 

The Rookie Awards is an annual contest that is open to young creative talent in visual effects, animation, games, virtual reality, motion graphics and 3D visualisation.
