AN5001 Computer Anim Pro Starts Today

Pantomime animation by Maria Robertson
Computer Animation Pro starts today, Monday 16 September. AN5001 is the first animation module that our undergraduate students encounter in their second year of studies.

Our students will tackle character actions, pantomime, acting, performance and dialogue.

Students will build on the animation skills they learned in the first year of studies, and particularly in AN4001 - Introduction to Animation.

The module culminates in an entry in the monthly 11 Second Club competition.

Second Year UG Studies
The second year of undergraduate animation studies at Escape Studios contains 4 modules, which run sequentially from September 2019 until the end of May 2020.  Together these four modules are worth a grand total of 120 credits.

2nd year tutor - Alex Williams
Like last year, I'll be teaching the second year animators, as our students start to specialise in their chosen field and also tackle their first group projects.

AN5001 Computer Animation Pro
AN5001 is the second animation module (in the first year, students tackle AN4001; Animation Core), in which students tackle character actions, pantomine, acting, performance and dialogue.  The module is worth a total of 30 credits.

The module starts on Monday 16th September and runs until Friday 25th October.

11 Second Club Competition
The module culminates in an entry in the monthly 11 Second Club competition. In 2017 five of our students placed in the top twenty entries in the competition.  In 2018 all our students placed in the top half of the competition, and 6 placed in the top 30.  You can see more 11 Second Club Entries at our YouTube Channel here.

Below is a notable entry by Escapee Maria Robertson.

Facebook Classroom
Our second year animators will join our dedicated FB Classroom - this closed group is our online Classroom, where we shared ideas, post work, and get critique from our peers.  It's only open to students and staff who need to use it.

Don't forget we have an animation library in the hall right outside the classroom. There are dozens of books on animation, including key textbooks such as The Animator's Survival Kit

Maciej Osuch
Studio Assistant
Our studio assistant is the very talented Maciej Osuch, already an award-wining animator and director.

Maciej's short teaser for The Golden Acorn won best teaser/trailer at the Golden Nugget Film Festival on 11th September. Maciej also won the Search for a Star award in April 2019.

Studio assistants help to support our students learning 3D animation, helping out in the classroom to make sure everyone stays on track.

Becoming a studio assistant at Escape Studios is a great way to launch a career in animation and VFX - our studio assistants invariably move on to careers in industry, after working and studying here, perfecting their demo reels and developing industry contacts.

The Escape Studios Animation Blog offers a personal view on the art of animation and visual effects. To find out more about our new BA/MArt, now recruiting for September 2019, follow this link.   To apply, visit the official page here.
