Sliced Bread Animation Visits Escape Studios

Jamie Denham of Sliced Bread
This week Escape Studios welcomed Jamie Denham, owner and managing director of Sliced Bread Animation, to talk to our MA Students about the business of animation.

Sliced Bread is a London-based animation studio founded in 2002, working for clients such as Sony, Coca-Cola, Microsoft and Unilever.

Jamie talked to our students about how he first founded Sliced Bread animation and how the business has evolved since then. He also explained his approach to managing projects and clients, the difference between employees and freelancers, and how animation graduates can find their niche in the rapidly expanding but highly competitive animation industry.

L7 Animation BA/Mart
Our undergraduate students graduate after 3 years with a BA in animation, but many of them have chosen to continue their studies with us for an extra, final year, at the end of which they will be awarded a Master of Arts degree in their subject.

Integrated Masters
The BA/Mart is called an "integrated masters" degree, because the masters' year builds on the first three years of undergraduate study.  In their fourth year of study, masters' students collaborate to fulfill their own ideas and projects, working together in teams to create original content, focusing on the business side of animation production.

CR7004 Business Module
Jamie's talk forms a part of CR7004, a level 7 business module, and the first module of MA Art, in which students organise themselves in groups to devise a viable business plan and be ready to pitch their idea to investors. Jamie also gave our students feedback on their individual business proposals, helping them to create a proposal rooted in financial and business reality.

Sliced Bread Animation
Sliced Bread Animation is an award-winning boutique animation studio based in London, creating "high-impact, bespoke animations and applications for marketing and corporate communications, including virtual and augmented reality projects".

Pearson College Business School
For the final year of studies at Escape Studios, we are collaborating with Pearson College Business School, in which students are taught the building blocks of building a business from scratch.

  1. Augmented Reality is changing the phase of education. In contrast to virtual reality which builds a computer generated environment and the real world, augmented reality is much closer to the real world.
