Writing and Directing Books For the Library

New Books: On Directing Film and Save the Cat
We have new books for the Animation & VFX Library on the 11th Floor at 6 Mitre Passage. 

New books include "Save The Cat" by Blake Snyder on Screenwriting, and "On Directing Film" by Oscar-winning writer David Mamet.  Both books offer important insights into visual storytelling. 

And don't forget to make use of our Tutorial Channel - we have many hundreds of video tutorials on animation and VFX.

Shamus Culhane: Animation - From Script to Screen
Shamus Culhane's classic work on animation - "Animation - From Script to Screen". Shamus Culhane was a product of the Golden Age of Animation, contributing to classic films such as Fantasia, and working on iconic characters such as Betty Boop.

The Visual Story by Bruce Block
The Visual Story by Bruce Block, is an important work on the visual language of film.   Bruce Block taught visual design classes to the development artists at Warner Bros Feature Animation back in the 1990s.

Cartooning Animation
Preston Blair's book on Cartooning Animation was one of the first how-to books on animation.  

Preston Blair was one of the finest animators from the early days of the Walt Disney Studios.  Blair worked on Fantasia (1940), animating the Mickey Mouse scenes in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" - and the hippo-alligator dance in the "Dance of the Hours".

The Hero With a Thousand Faces is  is a work of comparative mythology by Joseph Campbell, one of the classic resources on story and storytelling - the source of myths and stories for thousands of years.

Please check the books out in the orange Library Book, leaving your name, the name of the book checked out, the author's name, your email address, and the date you checked it out.  Don't forget to sign the books back in again so we know they have been returned. 

Cracking Animation, Gromit!
New books include the Hue Book of Animation - a great guide for getting started if you've never animated before - and Cracking Animation by Aardman Animation, the team behind Wallace & Gromit (and the new Chicken Run movie, released on Netflix on 15 December).  

Producing Animation
We also have two new copies of "Producing Animation", by Katherine Winder and Zahra Dowlatabadi.

New Pixar Studio books

New Books - Pixar
We've recently acquired some more new books for the Escape Studios Animation library, where we keep traditional hard copies (ie actual physical books) on the 11th Floor at 6 Mitre Passage.  

The new books are "Pixar Storytelling" and "Pixar and the Aesthetic Imagination", new titles which will help our 2nd year animators as they start their group film projects.

New books include "The Art of Spiderman - Into the Spiderverse", and "The Art of Frozen".

We also have many books on film-making and direction, inclduing "Directing the Story" by Disney director Francis Glebas.

The Animator's Survival Kit
There are many useful books in Online Library and the traditional library. We have many physical copies of "The Animator's Survival Kit", and also many titles on development, character and creature animation, independent film finance, acting, and design.  

Recent additions include a biography of Walt Disney and also books on animating in Maya.

Recently we acquired more copies of "Prepare to Board" by Nancy Beiman, on the Art of Storyboarding - a vital skill for the making of all our short films.
