Drawing Club is Back Every Monday in 2022

Drawing Club is Back!  Sharpen your pencils - Escape Studios' Drawing Club has returned; it takes place weekly on Mondays in Room 2.1 (Churchill) at 190 High Holborn from 4:45 until 5:45pm.

The club is run by our amazing Studio Assistants - including Sarah Andrews, director of the award-winning short film Jerich0.  Sarah often lends her artistic skills to the banners and posters you see around campus and on newsletters.

Drawing Club is free and open to everyone - even you haven’t picked up a pencil in years.  Drawing Club is a great opportunity to learn something new, get the rust off your pencils - or just get away from the computer screen.

Drawing remains a very useful skill in the animator's toolkit - for designs, storyboards, thumbnail sketches and scene planning. Animation often begins with a rough sketch.

Drawing Club is open to everyone at Escape Studios - no matter their level of skill.  It is also a perfect opportunity to meet other students and get to know others from around the campus. The organisers also have a Discord server for the club and everyone is free to join for up-to-date information about the club and for hints and tips.

Where and When
Drawing Club takes place weekly on Monday in Room 2.1 (Churchill) at 190 High Holborn from 4:45 until 5:45pm.

Stick Figures Welcome
Even if you can barely draw a stick figure - come along and get stuck in. Drawing club is for beginners as well as experts, so don't be shy.

Drawing Still Matters
Drawing Club at Escape Studios
Drawing is still an important part of the animator's toolkit.  Being able to capture a pose, or - better yet - a series of poses, is an important skill to master, as it helps the animator to plan their work.

It's also an important skill to be able to do rough storyboard drawings, to be able to cut a rough storyboard animatic.

Our Studio Assistants, including Drawing Club supremo Sarah Andrews, will be on hand to lead the class, presenting drawing challenges such as quick gesture drawings to capture a fast pose.

Animators often create small, rough sketches or "thumbnail drawings" to help figure out how the shot is going to work out.

These drawings are like miniature storyboards, used to plan out a shot or sequence.

Drawing club is free
Classes are free for all our students.
