Dorothea Schoentag is a Disney Art Director with many years of industry experience. She is also one of our MA Storyboarding and Previz industry mentors, overseeing many of our MA Storyboarding and Previz students’ projects - giving valuable feedback on story development through art direction.

Characters and their Worlds
Stories are told with characters and the worlds they inhabit. In this session Dorothea will talk about how she creates these worlds, about the process of art direction for animation, the pre-visualisation techniques, the pre-production, and production at Disney TV animation - and why animators love mirrors! Dorothea will also discuss the importance of illustration, and the revival of 2D animation techniques liberated by Toon Boom – software used by Disney for producing some of the best rated animated shows.
