Simone Giampaolo Oscar Shortlist Q&A

Escape Studios' tutor Simone Giampaolo is hosting a free Q&Q tomorrow Friday 28 January at 7pm GMT about his Oscar-Shortlisted short film "Only a Child", a "visual poem" created by over 20 animation directors.

"Only a Child" is a short film based on the words spoken by the then 12 year-old Severn Cullis-Suzuki at the UN Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, in which she made a plea in verse to world leaders for better environmental protection.

"Only a Child" is a visual poem created by over 20 animation directors under the artistic supervision of Simone Giampaolo, which gives shape and colour to the original words spoken by Severn Cullis-Suzuki at the UN Summit in Rio in 1992, a child’s call to action for the future of our planet



12 Months and 20 Studios
Simone spent twelve months working with twenty studios to create the award winning film.  In this Q&A Simone will talk about how he made "Only a Child", and how he led an international team working remotely to celebrate the environmental youth movement.   You can get your free ticket to the event here.

Simone Giampaolo
Animation director Simone Giampaolo is a regular guest tutor at Escape Studios, teaching our short course and masters' animation students.

Simone worked at Blue Zoo animation in London for many years as an animator, later becoming animation supervisor and eventually director of some of Blue Zoo's best animation shorts.

Simone is now working as an animation director for Axis Animation, as well as participating in many other animation projects.
