PR6001 Studio Project Starts This Week

Our third year animation students have returned to our High Holborn Campus (with some Covid-19 restrictions in place), and the first module they are tackling is PR6001 - The Studio Project.

PR6001 - the Studio Project module - is worth 60 Credits, and runs for the whole academic year. It is a group module in which our animation students work together in teams to create short films, many of which have gone on to win festival awards.

Students collaborate to work together to a defined brief, designed as closely as possible to simulate working on a live client project.

The Studio Project Module is broken up into two projects, giving students the chance to practice their skills as film-makers over the course of the year.

Studio Project 1: VFX project. In this group project, animation students work alongside VFX students, both 3D and 2D, to create professional-quality 3D animation, such as the short film Jerich0 below, which has won many awards, was selected for the BFI London Film Festival, and was short-listed for a student BAFTA.

Studio Project 2: Unreal Engine project.
In this group project, animation students work alongside games students to create professional-quality game animation, learning the Unreal Engine pipeline.

Rendering in real time has become a major priority for many of our industry partners, such as Blue Zoo, saving time in post-production and permitting resources to be more efficiently deployed elsewhere in the pipeline.

Minuet - 2019
In 2019 the animation students combined forces on one large group project: "Minuet", a 4 1/2 minute short film which is our most ambitious project to date.

Minuet has been selected for many festivals, and won the award for Best Animation at the Golden Nugget International Film Festival, and an award at the Zero Budget Film Festival.

2020 "Over Under"
Michael Davies
In 2020 students collaborated on "Over Under", an even more ambitious film with a running time of over seven minutes, currently being entered into festival competition.

Teamwork
The third year at Escape Studios focuses on students working together in teams to create original content, industry-quality work, to formal deadlines.

Tutor: Michael Davies
The year is overseen by animation tutor and UG Program Leader Michael Davies, a skilled 3D generalist with credits on The Hobbit and Minions, and is also supported by specialist tutors to provide bespoke training where needed.

Polish your pitch
In addition, students have access to our large and growing range of tutorials at our Vimeo Channel, allowing them to learn online and at their own convenience.

How to Get Ready
To get ready for September, we recommend that our students think about their ideas and pitches over the summer. Once term starts, there isn't a lot of time to spitball ideas, write scripts, and storyboard your work.

So, we hope our students have used the time available over the summer to polish their pitches - so they can hit the ground running in this week.

14th September - Back to School
Class began on Monday 14 September.
