Advanced Animation Starts 14th January 2019

Advanced Animation - 18 weeks
What's in our Advanced Animation course? Advanced animation is a new course, an extension of the existing 12 week course in animation.

Advanced Animation is aimed at students who want to polish and further develop their 3D animation skills.

This 6 week intensive class builds on the lessons learned in the 12 Week Animation Short Course,  developing and enhancing existing skills and making sure that all our students are job-ready by the end of the course.

What is Advanced Animation All About?
Polishing our students' animation skills. In this 6 week course, we tackle some of the trickier aspects of animation that have not been explored in detail in the basic 12 week course.

Advanced Character and Creature Animation
This includes advanced character and creature animation, digging deeper into acting and performance, and in particular exploring animal and creature performance, seeking to take our students' skills to a photo-real level of animation.  We will also have the time to dig further into Motion Capture and facial performance, character interactions, and a further final demo reel and polish.

London has a strong focus on visual effects work and we want our students to be able to tackle the challenges and opportunities in our local market. By the end of the course you should have a polished video portfolio in the shape of an online demo reel to help you find work in this growing but competitive industry.

Course Design
The animation program has been refined over many years, constantly being adapted to suit the needs of industry, and following extensive industry consultation.

When does it start and finish?
Advanced Animation Starts on 14 January 2019 and lasts for six weeks. It is an extension of the existing 12 week animation short course.

Who teaches the course?
Simone Giampaolo
Advanced Animation is taught by a number of industry tutors:
  • Our lead lead tutor is Lee Caller, an excellent animator with a superb sense of comic timing and storytelling.
  • The other principal tutor is our newest animation tutor, Simone Giampaolo, formerly of Blue Zoo and now a director at Aardman animation in Bristol.
Every animator has their own unique workflow and areas of specialism, so having a variety of tutors really helps our students get a broad range of approaches to animation.

Career opportunities
Our students go on to work in many areas of the industry including 3D animation for films, TV, games, and visual effects.  We take aftercare very seriously – since it can take time to put together a job-ready demo reel, we make sure our students get the time and practice that they need to refine their work to make them job-ready.

Course Detail

Advanced Character animation – Dialogue and Lipsync. Here we focus on advanced character animation techniques, possibly involving entry in to the 11 Second Club contest.

Advanced Motion Capture and facial performance. We take a deeper look at motion capture and performance capture, demonstrating facial performance techniques.

Character interactions
Students will be expected to animate a two character shot, showing the interaction between the characters.

Advanced Creature Animation – Creature performance and acting. London is a major hub for creature animation, with skilled animators in high demand. Being able to deliver photo-realistic animal and creature work isn't easy, and it's harder still to layer in a believable acting performance. Think Paddington 2 as the Gold Standard for this kind of work.

Demo Reel and Polish
In the final week we focus in depth on students' demo reels, polishing their work and making sure they are job-ready.

The Escape Studios Animation Blog offers a personal view on the art of animation and visual effects. To find out more about our new BA/MArt, now recruiting for September 2019, follow this link.   To apply, visit the official page here
