Steve Edge Director at Tiger Aspect

Many congratulations to Escapee Steve Edge, who is currently directing "Aliens Love Underpants" for Tiger Aspect Productions in London.

Steve studied animation at Escape Studios and used the training to launch his career.

Steve Edge
"Aliens Love Underpants" is a traditionally animated 2D show, but executed in Cel Action, a software package developed here in the UK. It is one of a number of software packages that allow animators to use traditional 2D drawings skills, but with digital tools, to save time and create greater efficiencies.

Steve was taught 3D by Dan Schutt, and learned animation from Jeff Pratt, who first launched the animation department at Escape Studios after leaving Pixar.

Steve's success in 2D animation shows how transferable the skills learned at Escape Studios can be. A skilled 3D animator can apply those skills to many areas of production - including 2D animation.

Steve isn't the only Escapee to go on to direct at Tiger Aspect. Rich Jeffrey, who took our animation short course a few years back, also followed the same path.

  1. The article mentions the importance of staying up to date with industry trends. I'd love to hear Steve Edge's take on the future of 2d animation. Are there any emerging trends or technologies that he believes will significantly impact the industry in the coming years?
