Today's Taster is being hosted by Escape Studios' Technical Art tutor Simon Browne. Simon Browne has worked in TV, advertising and corporate media. He specialises in simulation-based animation, but he is also an experienced 3D animator with over 20 years in industry. Simon has experience with Matchmove, Coding, and is skilled in Maya, Houdini, 3DSMax, Redshift, After Effects and Unity.
Free Houdini Tutorials
We have created a series of free tutorials in Houdini, hosted at the official SideFX website. These were created by Escape Studios' tutor Mark Spevick.
Mark's Houdini tutorials include beginner tutorials such as the destruction of a brick wall, and how to create fire and smoke, progressing to more advanced subjects such as how to create a crashing wave effect.

Escape Studios is an approved Houdini Certified School. Becoming a Houdini Certified School meant opening a new chapter in our relationship with SideFX, an ever-closer partnership in which our students benefit from being taught by expert tutors and exclusive access to Houdini technology, webinars and presentations.
This latest partnership comes after our recent official certification by Epic Games as an Unreal Engine Authorised Training Centre (ATC).

Houdini is a 3D animation software application developed by Toronto-based developer SideFX, and is widely used in the VFX industry for procedural animation such as smoke, fire, water and other effects. It is an increasingly important part of the VFX toolkit, and one we encourage all our students to learn, both in and out of the classroom.
