Iliana, who teaches our MA in storyboarding and previsualisation, will be booking professional life models for life drawing classes once a week on Wednesdays from 1pm until 6pm in Room B5 at 190 High Holborn.
Life drawing is still an important skill for our animators and storyboard artists. An understanding of human anatomy, and the ability to capture a pose or gesture in a few lines, is still a key skill - even in a digital world.
Fast sketches can be especially useful, helping animators to make quick thumbnails to plan animation - a technique which hasn't changed much since Disney's Golden Age.

Iliana Franklin
Iliana Franklin teaches our MA in Storyboarding and Previsualisation; she is an animation artist with many years of experience in the industry.
Storyboarding
Storyboarding is a specialism within our industry which encompasses multiple skills, one of which is the ability to draw well.
Drawing skills are more or less essential for a good storyboard artist, even though new technology can help in many ways.
All are welcome
All of our students are welcome to attend (subject to space being available) - but make sure you contact Iliana first, so she has an idea of numbers. Iliana may also be able to run evening or Saturday sessions if there is enough interest from our students.
How to sign up
The class is free for all our students, but please let us know you are coming in advance. If you would like to attend, email Iliana at iliana.franklin@pearsoncollegelondon.ac.uk
Life drawing for animators and storyboard artists
An understanding of human anatomy, and the ability to capture a pose or gesture in a few lines, is still a very useful skill - even in a digital world.
Animators in particular benefit from being able to do quick "thumbnail" sketches, helping to plan animation efficiently in advance. We strongly recommend that our students take advantage of classes like this one.
Life Drawing Resources
For those who can't make our classes, don't forget that the Cartoon Museum also runs life drawing classes, a short walk from Escape Studios.
The Escape Studios Animation Blog offers a personal view on the art of animation and visual effects. To find out more about our new BA/MArt, now recruiting for September 2020, follow this link. To apply, visit the offical page here.
YESSSSSS.Finally! I'm so excited :D
