MA Animation Starts 25 February 2019

Get your masters degree in 3D Animation
The Spring 2019 intake of our new MA (Master of Arts) in 3D Animation starts on 25 February 2019.

The course will be taught at our mid-town campus in central London, and we look forward to welcoming our new cohort of students.

If you're looking for an animation course that teaches you how to animate, and also leads to a formal qualification in the field, then this could be the right course for you.

What's this all about?
It's a brand-new course - our very first post-graduate degree in animation. This new full-time Master's degree starts on 25 February 2019 and runs for a full year.

Campus: 190 High Holborn, London
Start date: 25 February 2019

Who is this course for?
Head of Animation: Alex Williams
This course is aimed at anyone who wants to learn the art and craft of 3D Animation in Maya, and also receive a formal qualification in the field. You might be a 2D animator wanting to break into 3D, or a graduate who didn’t get the right skills at university – or someone with no experience of animation who wants to make a career change.

Remember that an MA is more or less essential for any practitioner who wants to teach their subject at university level. We teach all our students from scratch, and our goal is to make you job-ready by the end of the course.

Entry Requirements
We look for an undergraduate honours degree (such as a Batchelor of Arts), ideally (but not necessarily) with a significant component in the field of animation or a related arts or computer discipline.

What's this course all about?
We take you through all the essential principles of animation from the very beginning – bouncing a ball – through to sophisticated character and creature animation. We start with the basics of motion and locomotion, building up to pantomime, character performance, and also tackling animals and creatures.

Job opportunities
London has a strong focus on visual effects work and we want our students to be able to tackle the challenges and opportunities in our local market. By the end of the course you should have a polished video portfolio in the shape of an online demo reel to help you find work in this growing but competitive industry.

Course Design
The animation program has been refined over many years, constantly being adapted to suit the needs of industry, and following extensive industry consultation.

Lee Caller
Who teaches the course?
The course will be taught by a number of animation tutors, giving our students a variety of voices and techniques.  The lead tutor is Lee Caller, an excellent animator with a superb sense of comic timing and storytelling.

Other Escape Studios animation tutors include Michael Davies, Sydney Padua, and Amedeo Beretti.  Lately we've been lucky enough to have the benefit of occasional classes from Aardman animation director Simone Giampaolo.

Every animator has their own unique workflow and areas of specialism, so having a variety of tutors helps our students get a broad range of approaches to animation.
