Why is it that so many animation jobs seem to be gone as soon as you apply - especially that elusive first job? The answer is, according to Chris, because candidates don't apply fast enough. But why is that? And why is speed so essential?
Jobs go fast, and by fast he means - super fast. So, to be sure of being in with a chance, you need to be ready to apply within 24 hours of seeing the job advertised.
This means you have to be ready and poised to apply in advance - long before the job posting goes up. Your CV, your demo reel, your blog and/or website - everything must be in place well ahead of time.
If you see the job and think "OK, I see the job, now I'll find some time to re-edit my demo reel this weekend" - you're already too late. To find out more, read this post.
Here at Escape we don't just teach our students to animate, we try to make they sure they are job-ready by the end of the course. This means that they have a demo reel ready to go, hosted at their blog or website, a polished CV, business cards, and a list of studios to contact.
