Making business cards should be on your jobs checklist, along with cutting your demo reel, hosting it online at your blog or website, and updating and curating your LinkedIn profile (animation recruiters live on LinkedIn).
Business cards are still the simplest and most efficient way to give your contact details to someone you have just met.
But what if, like many of our students, you are short on cash? The answer is, print your own. Here's how to do it.
Why business cards still matter

Brand yourself
Business cards are also a way to show your own creativity as an artist. A business card doesn't have to be dull; it can be fun and entertaining - a way to make yourself memorable and interesting. Our final year students at Escape Studios must create their own business cards as part of their business module - preparing them for industry.
If you have no money, make your own
Business cards are nowadays pretty cheap to make. Try Moo.com; their interface is simple and easy to use, and within a few minutes you can place an order for 50 cards for just £15.
But if you're short on cash, make your own. Make multiple copies of your card in Photoshop, save it as a PDF, and then print out the sheets on the printers at Escape Studios. The Xerox printer/photocopiers at our 190 High Holborn campus are best accessed through Mobile Printing, available to all our students.

To print a document, first email your file, ideally as a standard PDF attachment, to: mobileprint.emea@pearson.com. You will then receive an email with a six digit code. Print jobs can be sent from anywhere (at home - even on the train) and from any device (mobile, tablet, laptop - whatever), and the print job will be stored for up to 48 hours.
To print it out, go to any printer and select Mobile Printing from the display panel. Enter your six digit code, and select Print. When you're done, grab some scissors and cut out your cards.
The Escape Studios Animation Blog offers a personal view on the art of animation and visual effects. To find out more about our new BA/MArt now recruiting for September 2019, follow this link. To apply, visit the official page here.
