The next stage is to get industry feedback. How well did they do? Does their work live up to industry standards? What could they do better next time?
Today Thursday 24 January we welcome industry guests to come and give our students a professional critique, and also give credit where it's due.
What's this all about?
"Jericho" - integrating cgi and live action plates |
Industry marking is also part of our assessment process, so the students' final mark will include the results of the industry critique.
And, finally, it's a chance to celebrate the culmination of a lot of hard work.
VFX project
This is the first time we have run the third undergraduate year at Escape Studios, and the first time we have run the VFX project, where animators collaborate with both 2D and 3D artists to create a short film project from start to finish.
Students wrote their own stories, designed their own characters, modeled and rigged the assets, and finally brought them to life with animation, all in the space of just a few months.
The students also had to grapple with a live photography shoot, working with cinematographer Clement Gharini, capturing original footage and integrating the 3D elements with the photographic plates.

The results so far have been stellar; as well as developing a full understanding of the VFX pipeline, our students will have some superb work to put on their demo reels. One recent industry guest described the short films as "the best thing I've seen come out of Escape Studios, ever".
