An Evening With... Francesca Adams 22nd Feb

Blue Zoo storyboard artist Francesca "Chess" Adams is our guest for our next "An Evening with..." event. Every month we have a guest speaker from industry to come in for a talk, followed by a short Q&A with our students, past present and future.

It's a chance for students to catch up with industry professionals, find out how the industry works, and also - of course - enjoy some free beer and pizza.

Francesca Adams, our very own Storyboarding tutor, will join us to give an insight into the life of a Storyboarding artist at Blue Zoo, one of London's leading animation studios.

Some of the topics covered during the event will be:
  • What the job of a storyboard artist involves
  • What it's like to work on different projects (2D, 3D, TV, Advertising, and Film)
  • How the role has changed over the years (and continues to change)
  • How to build a strong storyboard portfolio and find work
Francesca has over 6 years’ experience in working as a professional animator and is currently a storyboarding artist at BlueZoo Animation. Her projects include: Digby Dragon, Miffy's Adventures Big and Small and Go Jetters.

Where and when?
The event takes place on the evening of Wednesday 22nd February at 6.30 pm here at our Shepherds Bush campus. The Shepherds Building West, Rockley Rd, Hammersmith, London W14 0DA.

To find out more about storyboarding, and in particular what free software tools are out there, see this post on the free storyboard software "Storyboarder", and also his post on the free software "Panel Forge", which has been developed by Blue Zoo.

To see some Storyboard success stories, read about how Escapee Fred O'Rourke got a job storyboarding on a feature film, and how Escapee Dominika Brodowska found work at Cloth Cat in Cardiff.

If you're looking for a great book on storyboarding, we recommend "Prepare to Board" by Nancy Beiman.

Also check out some of the excellent free Pixar resources at YouTube, including this excellent video showing a storyboard pitch by Joe Ranft, and another useful Pixar video here.
