Escape Studios' Industry Beginners Guide

One of the most useful resources provided by Escape Studios for prospective students is our Industry Beginners' Guide, an invaluable source of information for understanding what's involved in the animation, VFX and games industries, and how to acquire the skills needed to break in.

Escape Studios track the latest trends in the job market, focusing especially on the skills that are currently in high demand.

Our goal is to place students in well-paid work in the best animation, games and visual effects houses in London and overseas. We recommend that all of our students download a copy.  Best of all, it's absolutely free.

Escape Studios' Industry Beginners Guide
What is a pipeline? What is the difference between 2D and 3D? What does a Matte Painter do? So many questions that come to mind when stepping into the industry. With lots of jargon to decipher, loads of job roles to understand and heaps of studios that all work differently, getting your head around the VFX, Animation, Games and Motion Graphics industries can be difficult.

Industry Survival Guide
Following the success of our 2018 Industry Survival Guide, we’ve spoken to successful Escapees, industry partners such as DNEG, Creative Assembly and The Mill, and our expert tutors to make sure you’ve got all the essential information to get you started in the industry.  It’s packed with facts about the creative industries and its future, discipline breakdowns, mini careers and studio guides, plus the ultimate jargon buster.

The State of the Industry
"Trolls on Tour" earned $100m on streaming devices
London has been for many years a global destination for top-quality animation, visual effects and games work, and the UK Government continues to support the industry with a valuable tax credit.

Covid-19
Corona Virus has of course thrown a spanner in the works, but animation and games especially continue to flourish, even as live action shoots were closed down.

Animation Thrives
Award winning "Quarantine Chorus"
According to a recent piece in The Guardian, the animation industry is thriving despite the Corona Lockdown.  Unlike live action shoots, which have been shut down due to Covid-19, the animation industry is expanding, as programmers scramble to replace live-action content with animation.

Working from Home
The reason, of course, is that animators can and do work alone, from home, just as we are doing now at Escape Studios.  We've had considerable success at Escape moving our teaching online, and our students have successfully collaborated on group film projects such as Nefertiti, Death From Above, Hotel Aloha, Quarantine Chorus, Moon Rockz, Hat Shop, and Street Ratz, all of which are already winning festival laurels. Of course, the festivals themselves are moving online, but awards are still being won.
