2D Compositing Tutorials at Our Vimeo Channel

Our Vimeo channel offers our students online learning to supplement our classroom tuition.  We now have a series of videos on Nuke,  the VFX industry's leading compositing software.

Our online tutorials are intended to complement our classroom studies, allowing students at Escape Studios to recap, or catch up on work they missed, while following a tutorial in their own time.

Video Tutorials
One of our priorities at Escape Studios is to have a series of video tutorials to cover everything, or almost everything, that we teach in the classroom. It's a system of blended learning, incorporating the best of traditional classroom study and virtual learning, part of what we call The Escape Method, designed to maximise our students' chances of breaking into the industry and beginning a long-term career in their chosen field.

Compositing with Nuke
We have many tutorials on compositing with Nuke, the leading industry software for compositors.

Introductory Videos

What Do Compositors Do?
What Do Compositors Do?
In this introductory video Escape Studios tutor Allar Kaasik explains what compositing is all about, and why he has spent the best part of his career in VFX learning to master it.

Camera Tracking in Nuke with Klaudija Cermak
There are many benefits to Nuke’s Camera Tracker.

You can extract individual trackers to use in a 2D Tracker node and also there is an automatic Point Cloud that can aid in positioning of the cards one can project to cleanup patches or new elements for the shot.

To get started, watch the video below.

Allar Kaasik takes us through the basics of machine learning in Nuke.

Morphing in Nuke
How does Morphing Work in Nuke? Nuke Tutorial with Allar Kaasik
Allar Kaasik explains the core VFX technique of “morphing” – how it works and how it is actually used in practice.  Allar Kaasik explains face morphing (turning a doll’s head in a real girl) and then demonstrates how this technique is used to achieve “invisible effects”.

Rotoscoping in Nuke
Rotoscoping and Clean-up with Nuke and Mocha Pro with Allar Kaasik
Allar Kaasik explains rotoscoping and clean-up techniques using Nuke and Mocha Pro, including Mocha's planar tracking capabilities to speed up the process of match-moving.  Allar also explains how to apply shapes and track data in Nuke.

How To Make Gizmos
How to Make Gizmos - Nuke Tutorial with Allar Kaasik.  Allar explains how to create gizmos in Nuke and how to install them. Allar also demonstrates the difference between ToolSets and gizmos and when would you use either one.  Nuke has a large set of nodes that apply specific effects - the art of compositing involves choosing the right ones; combining them to get the job done.

Keying without Alpha Channel
Keying without Alpha Channel; Nuke Tutorial with Clement Gharini. Clem demonstrates how to composite green-screen in Nuke without any alpha, in order to achieve a much higher integration of details and colours.
