UCAS Deadline - 15 January 2016

UCAS - still time to apply - but hurry!
Thinking of applying to Escape Stduos to study the Art of 3D Animation? It's not too late! The next big UCAS deadline is 15 January 2016, and we are welcoming applications for our new integrated BA/MArt.

Below are some good reasons why we believe we are building one of the best animation courses in the country, and how you can get started on your new career as a 3D animator.

When Should you apply?
Now! Below is a list of UCAS deadlines taken from their official site.
  • 15 January at 18:00* for the majority of courses
  • 24 March at 18:00* for some art and design courses
  • 30 June at 18:00* is the deadline to submit your application with choices. After this you're entered into Clearing.
Escape Studios is always on the look out for talent, and even if you apply later in the year we will still consider you - if we have any places left.  But applying on time or even early is a good thing; it shows you have drive and commitment, and that you have got yourself well-organised - all good qualities for a career in the creative industries.

Where should you apply?
At the official Pearson College London Website.

Why choose Escape Studios?
Because we are very good at animation and vfx, with a long track record of placing students in the industry. All our tutors have industry-relevant experience and we know what skills are needed to get a job.  I have personally worked on almost 40 animated films from Who Framed Roger Rabbit? to the last three Harry Potter pictures, to Paddington - released last year.

Is there a video which explains all about the course?
Yes! Watch our official course video here. It's only a few minutes long, and it explains what we're trying to do here at Escape Studios. Our goal is to build the best course in the country for 3D Animation.

What about partnerships with Industry?
One of London's leading VFX houses
With around 4,000 Escapees working in the industry, Escape Studios have years of experience of forging partnerships with the animation and VFX business, especially the with the visual effects industry in Soho, London.

After all, Soho is just a 15 minute Tube ride away.

We also have informal connections to Framestore, Cinesite, MPC and other visual effects houses in London and many studios overseas.

Where can you see the past work done by Escapees?
Our students have done plenty of excellent work. Take a look at past video compilations showcasing some of the work done by our students, and student demo reels.

Your job at Escape Studios will be to study hard, learn your craft and do even better!

Will you have to come for interview and if so do you need a portfolio?
Yes, and yes. We interview all our candidates, largely because we want to make sure that you are a good fit for our course, and vice versa - we don't want anyone to sign up at Escape and be disappointed. And yes, you will need a portfolio - check out our post here on the kind of portfolio we are looking for. If you can't make it in - we can Skype!

Does Escape Studios help our graduates find work?
We do! We make strenuous efforts to help our students find work.  Of course, the key ingredient to finding work in the industry is to cut a great demo reel. Visit the Escape Studios YouTube channel to see some of the many excellent demo reels put together by our graduates.

Education is expensive - be prepared!
How much does it all cost and are there loans available?
Right now a degree at Escaoe Studios costs £9,000 a year, but this can be reduced to £6,500 if you successfully attend and complete one of our Applicant days.

There is a well-funded system of low-interest government loans in place, and in addition some scholarships and bursaries are available here. You can read our handy guide to the system here.

How should you get ready for the course?
Start reading the right books! Here is a list of useful books to get you started. Number one is The Animator's Survival Kit - every student should have a copy. Also, check out the week 1 videos at Animation Apprentice, which are a great introduction to the art of animation. They are all free.

Better yet, come and visit us at one of our Open Days, Experience Days or Taster Days - and see for yourself. Don't be shy! We're glad to talk, and we even offer free coffee and muffins.
